Setup Guide

Get Whispry running in under 5 minutes

Requirements

macOS 13 (Ventura) or later
Apple Silicon Mac (M1, M2, M3, or M4 chip)
2GB free storage for models
Microphone access permission

Installation

1 Download Whispry

After purchasing, you'll receive a download link via email. Download the .dmg file to your Mac.

2 Install the App

Open the downloaded .dmg file
Drag Whispry to your Applications folder
Eject the disk image

3 Launch & Activate

Open Whispry from your Applications folder
If prompted, click "Open" to allow the app
Enter your license code (found in your purchase email)
Click Activate

4 Grant Permissions

Whispry needs two permissions to work:

Microphone: To capture your voice for transcription
Accessibility: To type text into any application

Follow the prompts to grant these permissions in System Settings.

5 Download a Model

Choose a Whisper model based on your needs:

Tiny (~75MB) - Fastest, good for quick notes
Base (~140MB) - Balanced speed and accuracy
Small (~470MB) - Great accuracy, recommended
Medium (~1.5GB) - High accuracy
Large (~3GB) - Best accuracy, slower

We recommend starting with Small for the best balance.

Usage

Basic Recording

Press your hotkey (default: ⌘Space)
Start speaking
Press the hotkey again to stop
Text appears at your cursor!

💡 Tip: Hold the hotkey instead of pressing twice for push-to-talk mode. Release when done speaking.

Changing Settings

Click the Whispry icon in your menu bar to access settings:

Language: Set your native language for better accuracy
Model: Switch between downloaded models
Hotkey: Customize your recording shortcut
Auto-corrections: Enable/disable filler word removal

Troubleshooting

App won't open

If macOS blocks the app, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway".

Text not appearing

Make sure Accessibility permission is granted. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and enable Whispry.

Poor transcription quality

Try a larger model (Small or Medium)
Speak clearly and reduce background noise
Make sure you selected the correct language

⚠️ Note: Intel Mac support is coming soon! Currently Whispry works on Apple Silicon Macs only.
